Poem

I sit on my stoop and survey my domain.
Can't think of a reason I have to complain.
The fuchsia is thirsty. I give it a squirt,
And some for the dahlia, it truly can't hurt.

My roses are blooming, the birds are about,
Teaching their nestlings to sing, there's no doubt.
It's the first days of summer and bees are abuzz,
Working as hard as a busy bee does.

Though I know my Utopia, may not be for long
And sooner or later, some things might go wrong,
For this peaceful moment all's right in my world
As my Nation's flag flies, unfettered, unfurled.

For Two Hundred Thirty Three years she has flown,
Those bits of bright color that Betsy had sewn.
We'll all be saluting her, on her birthday.
Old soldiers will march and the school bands will play.

We'll think of those who so bravely have gone
To fight for our flag so that we can go on
With these peaceful moments of sweetness and light
As we pray for their safety and the end of their fight.
