Poem
we went out for a drive in the car,
we travelled near and travelled far,
then ended up at white scar cave,
take in the history and behave.
the doorway was discovered in 1923,
by a student from the univercity,
his name was christopher long we're told,
this cave as you enter is always cold.
the warning on the wall is very clear,
high heeled shoes are not a good idea,
hard hats are provided for you to use,
safety is paramount,you don't choose.
a coat and jumper saves you from the chill,
you wander around the cave at will,
this walk is more than a mile or so,
80 minutes you are on the go.
the first thing is the big waterfall,
then a babbling stream and a cateract small,
flowstones ,made the shape of a judges head,
on the left arum lillies fall from a stone bed.
there's a formation called the sword of damocles,
and the devils tongue,thats sure to please,
a large mass is called the crown of thorns,
the witches fingers the big rock adorns.
you now have steel grids under your feet,
there's a narrow passage,other people you'll meet,
up to the grotto and past the squeeze,
a narrow alley,but you'll feel the breeze.
higher it's bagshore tunnel with it's carrots bright,
a collection of orange stalactite,
we're now half way 40 mins or so,
by the foxhole and two avens a stone face is on show.
from this list i've completed the scene,
it's a walk back in time,like in a dream.
these formation's look as if carved by hand,
but they're created by water like mother nature planned.
after this long trek,you might need to stop,
take a look round the little gift shop,
then enjoy a cuppa and a bite to eat,
in the cafe,it's small but quite neat.
we enjoyed our day in the national park,
our imagination took on a new spark,
we the left ingelton and the village of hawes,
we said "goodbye"to the cave with no floors,
this cave we left was over 2000,000 years old,
and yes my brother and me did as we were told.
