Poem

Ma and Pa don't get around a great deal much anymore.
If they pine to cut a rug, they claim their health is mighty poor!
Used to be that they were the swingingest pair around;
Now with all their maladies, to their hearth they're bound!

Ma likes Mexican fare at the neighborhood Cafe De Luxe.
Pa says, "No way, Ma, not with my acid reflux!"
"We could go dancing, of that there is no doubt!"
"Can't, Ma, I'm suffering a terrible case of gout!"

"There's a picture show that I'd sure love to see."
"But, Pa, you know I can't enjoy it with my gimpy knee!"
"We could play a round of golf, course you've got arthritis!"
"Dear, you can't swing a club due to your bursitis!"

Pa ached to go to the pub for pool and a wee libation,
But his high blood pressure aborted that sort of recreation!
Their doctor warned them both about high cholesterol,
So forget the all-you-can-eat buffet at the shopping mall!

They'd like to stroll thro' the park, but with so many allergies,
The weeds and such would cause them to snort and sneeze!
Alas, they sit by the fire and compare each others' pain and ache,
Watching reruns on the television, trying to stay awake!
