Poem

I heard today you have a son
Five months old
The spitting image of you
Born the day after I was
Of all things in this world
I can always appreciate the ironies of life
And it didn’t make me miss you
Or want to see you
Or even want to talk to you
Much
I am happy where I am
With who I am
And most certainly with who I’m with
What it did was make me sad
For what we did to each other
The wreckage we left in our wake
The nuclear desert that was all that remained
Once we were done with one another
Because I blamed you for so much
For so long
Called the monsters in my head by your name
Certain in my righteousness
That you were where it all went wrong
But looking at pictures of you with him
I know that you aren’t evil
And I was there by your side
When we took each other down
And today I take my share of blame
In an effort to make the peace I never could
While making it all your fault
Because I know now 
That nobody is ever alone in battle
And true serenity never comes
Until you accept the weight of your own decisions
