Poem
Why do you never come to us Have we no voice What is the engine of your distrust It was not our vice That ran this country to the ground And we are only energy left around Since our interest is tied To what the merchants crucified Where will you get tax And we the wealth and leisure to relax I say, Mr. President, start again This road now taken is so vain. I speak not for elephants and radio host Whose interests disturb me the most I speak not for the ulterior will To change status quo upon the hill I speak for those who voted Not for long lines at canteens counter Empty house sprouted Like children huddled in a messy corner I speak for fathers tired Of policies against the poor That are in slick philosophies mired Arguments with an empty core. Come back to us, let us reason again For even God doth reason still With sinners, give us voice to ease our pain Too much thinking chokes the will O will you hear us, will you love us Will you share the burden of the day By meeting us on the bridge of trust We have little time, brook no delay There is nothing to graph or calculate Here, except rising despair A cold wind blusters a miserly fate Need is a voice sodden by tear. O let us arise, and let us build The citadel promised upon the hill.
