Poem

She was sitting on her bed when I walked in.
She hadn't eaten for days.

Her skin was pale, her eyes dead.
Her hair was greasy, and her legs and arms thin.

Her lips lost all their colour.
What happened to her?
Was this what depression did to her?

She turned her head and looked at me.
Staring with those dead eyes.
She was burning a whole into my heart.

What had happened to her?
Did she not recognize me?

She slowly turned her head, to stare at the wall.
Was she breathing?
I could not see her chest move.

I took a few steps toward her.
She did not move.
I moved a little more.
No movement came from her.
Finally I was 2 cm away from her.

I raised my hand to pat her shoulder,
But then she turned to stare again.
She did it again!
The glaring into my eyes.

It hurt!
Burning another hole in my heart.
"What's wrong?"
The words barely made their way out of my mouth.

She opened her mouth,
But no sound came out.
She turned once again to stare at the wall.

What could she see there?
Was she burning a hole into it too?
What has happened to her?

She's not the person I had once love.
I must save her.
I touch her shoulder.

Her skin is cold.
I put my hand on her chest to see if there's any movement.
None at all!

I bend over to whisper in her ear.
"Honey, can you hear me?"
She turns to look at me,
Her eyes are full with sadness.
"I love you"

And those were the last words she spoke to me.
The three last words, 
That my wife,
The person I loved and treasured,
spoke to me.
