Poem
Dear God, You know, when I fear – when I hurt, when I’m in tears You know the me I used to be, the me that you’ve changed entirely You know the things I want to say, when the grief clears You know, when I pray – all the words I just can’t say. And, still – despite all the things I mess up with my words You listen and whisper light through my lonely soul And, in Your light I see, the music of the prettiest songbirds Writing poetry through my dreams, my feelings, my belief. You know, when I change – from the darkest dread to the brightest hope You hear, when I don’t know how to say how much I love You You know, when I can’t express all the joy in the prayers that help me cope You listen, when I’m at my worst and I can’t remember how You’ve blessed. And, despite the worst that I am, the worst sins, the worst I can’t explain You write my name in Your book, show my heart that I’ve been spared And, whatever comes, whatever worlds have been shook, You ease my pain And help me to become the woman who can share Your grace with true praise You know, when I don’t see – the way to truth, the way that makes me free You know the love that I seek when I look to You, the One I believe You know, when I can’t believe – the answer to my heart, You make me see Beyond the doubts, beyond the tree where You hung and died for me… Yonder, beyond the grief – I see the tomb where You were laid And I know the heart of Mary who came to find that empty grave And I know how it feels to know Your love, the price You paid So when I die, I’ll find the meaning of true life, the sweetness of Your sacrifice! Dear God, please show me the way – to reach beyond my flaws, my sins Show me how to offer up the praise that reveals the love I have for You Reach down, please, with Your gentle touch, and show the love that wins When I listen to Your light, Your love, the melody of grace that abides. Dear God, Thank You for all You are, for being that bright, morning star!
