Poem

The last one standing
Would usually be a victory
But in this black girls story
It was the opposite 
For her this was a loss
Being the only black girl in the school
And for this She felt it deeply 
Knowing for the next few years She would be lonely

Most of the other black parents
Wanted their children 
To escape from this schools racism
Some of them along with their parents were forced to leave and go back to their home country 
She felt like she was drowning
Trapped in a sea of white faces
Knowing the next few years would be exhausting 
Knowing she would have no one to talk to
Not knowing if she would make it

She was now an easier target
Of their cruelty
Of their laughter 
She had now become an outcast
They had made her feel
Unwanted 
Worthless 
Like she was a burden 

They taunted 
The tormented 
They teased
They pushed her buttons 
Anf if she dared to speak back
She'd be labelled 
As the 'angry black girl"
She didn't have the privilege 
To speak
She wondered 
If being invisible 
Would give her freedom
This wasn't about her being able to hide 
This was about her wanting to commit suicide
