Poem
[Verse 1] We were hidin’ out where the lights ran low, You were talkin’ soft, just takin’ it slow. But I was somewhere else in my mind, Caught up in a face I’d left behind. That sideways grin, those late-night drives, The kind of heat that don’t survive. You saw it hit me, didn’t ask why, But your quiet stare felt like goodbye. [Verse 2] Your hand found mine... steady, warm But my heart was leanin’ toward a different storm. He’s the one who never looked back, Quick to charm, but slow to act. I never meant to get pulled that far, But some flames don’t care who you are. You must’ve known I wasn’t quite there, Not all the way gone, but halfway scared. [Pre-Chorus] You didn’t say much... just let it breathe, But I felt the room start to leave. [Chorus] I stayed… or maybe I just stood still, Frozen between want and will. He burned fast, you burned true, And I was caught right where I stood. A heartbeat away from slippin’ through, Thinkin’ ‘bout what I might lose. Not a word, not a sign, Just me hangin’ on that line. [Bridge] Then the door swung wide like a memory spillin’, Same coat, same grin I knew, Like a bad idea dressed brand new. He leaned in close and said, “Remember when?” Slick as ever, pullin’ me in. Said, “Let’s get lost, just like before,” But I wasn’t sure I wanted more. [Final Chorus] My breath hitched, my chest got tight, He was the dark side of a reckless night. He laughed like he already won, Told me, “You know where you belong.” You were still there, quiet and clear, Holdin’ space for me to disappear. And I just stood, lost in the spin, Caught between now and what might’ve been. [Outro] I turned my head, took one more look, At all the pages that man ripped from my book. Then I found you… still right there, A confident calm, eyes that care. I grabbed your hand with a half-smile sigh, Whispered, “Let’s go someplace quiet tonight.” And as we passed his frozen grin, You squeezed my hand… like love always wins. Yeah, love always wins!
