Poem
The lights dim, and a single spotlight illuminates the dude speaker/He adjusts the microphone the voice, and when it comes, it is strong.) The Confidence Man)/ He's not a robber with a gun and mask, He's smoother than silk, a velvet task/ a wanna be hipster and grifter, mean and selfish, a con man to the end/ The confidence man, a whisper in the night, Stealing your dreams in broad daylight/ He deals in deception, a master of disguise, mirroring your desires in his chameleon eyes/ He's the silver tongue, the charming rogue, he makes you feel bold, planting seeds of trust when the day comes to night/ He’ll bring out your worst, the things you hide, hoping to win at the lottery, gambling/borrowing for more money than you need/ Greed, the con man, will feed it in you and watch it grow/ whispering secrets that only you know/You feel Fear inside, this may not be for real/ as you hand over your money/to become a puppet on a trembling string/ He pulls it tight, a chilling, haunting thing you can’t sleep at night/you feel the Insecurity, a cracked and fragile shell. He shatters it into pieces, sending you screaming into a deep hell/ (Voice drops, becomes a guttural rumble) I'm the fixer man, I’m here to help/ Midnight roll to good times/ has your tight money got the blues/ let’s roll the big six... but wait a minute man, Your bank account is gone/I can’t help you (Voice returns to its original strength, tinged with a chilling awareness)Con man Gil B. Shift dangles the promise, a gilded, empty cage, of riches untold/ No risk, he swears, his lies are of a sweet light/ Just a simple transfer, to make everything right/ He knows your weakness, the itch to be more, to seize the moment, to be much more/ He's a predator in a tailored suit, with a skull-walking cane/this conman wears black shiny black boots and a diamond in his front tooth that shines so bright/ Preying on ambition, bearing stacks of joy/ So beware the charmer, the one who sees you, the one who knows your hopes, and laughs at you when your dreams go up in smoke/ For the confidence man is among us, still, he is a silent swindler, ready to fill… He pockets your hard-earned life’s cash/, leaving you down and broke/ He took all the money from your savings trust/that burned a hole in you like a bonfire burning on a hill No tears can take away a lesson learned/ (Lights fade to black)
