Many starry nights I lay
in my wooden cabin next to your 
sanctuary waiting for whisperings
from your past, wisdom words

I wrote odes about a nurturing 
grey wrinkled body smelling of hay
overripe fruit 
transferring images about your life
into quilts in dead of blue nights
your babes stumbled, not knowing 
where Mum’s attention had drifted 
your Consciousness on my bed 
sinking lovable weight instead 

I hugged your trunk as 
you narrated crossing Alps, 
Hannibal’s right-hand Chief of Staff,
when snowstorms hit his army fast
massaging velvet ears as you described  
Kuruksetra battlefield marches adorned 
with golden headgear, leading Arjuna’s 
onslaught for Justice, hailed by 
Krishna’s conch shell

what you omitted to storytell was 
an incarnation as Woolly Mammoth
too traumatic how human companionship 
turned to onslaught, chasing ornamental tusks
I sensed inner turmoil about your hair 
ripped for hearth rugs, cruel betrayal
frolicking in snow, dancing with 
snowflakes sunk

two-leggeds lost connection with Heart
dystopia ascending with Kali Era 
her hydra head chaotic rearing 
God knew it was time to change 
weather, geology, fauna, flora
evil that humans unleashed marbled
Patterns of Dark or Age of Quarrel 
like clockwork 

a descent was on cards again 
in Age of Enlightenment
your intuition of unfinished business 
with those created in His image
Darkness had not fulfilled its revolution
a curious Divine prerogative to be 
fine combed on laboratory tables

gloriously they succeeded 
with Most High’s permission
He smiled in knowingness  
an ace up His sleeve 

my nocturnal elephant-soul to 
tread fields of unfamiliar weather 
two layered coat insane, no icy wind 
to contain, curly whorly tusks
an unnecessary must 
no need for superfluous 
distinctive musk bust

an unusual patch of mean sheen
at base of Mammoth’s spine 
magnetised my observation 
aghast drew back I from sight 
there caroused a cohort
of prehistoric viral vamps
scientists had not seen to wean

natural queenly quarks of Grace’s 
wrath, this His maverick ace
what He had not fully ordained in 
unfolding of human brain
He was Supreme, they had to 
know, in all curiosity dreams

a way to accede no overstepping 
creative powers with idle scientific 
showers in think-tank bowers

Matriarch stepped out of 
my cedar cabin
prehistoric hairy version in tow
one disappearing back to babes
another backstepped into 
Ice Age timeline saged

Woolly momentarily returned 
to forgive human race
