Poem

Anger turned to joy,
With the news one day,
A little life was on the way.
Excitement in his eyes, a spark,
A future dream, a bright new start.

He told his mother, and brothers too,
A father’s pride, a love so true.
But when he came back, the light had dimmed,
The change so swift, the warmth had thinned.

At six months, the words that broke my soul,
“I don’t love you.” He said, and stole
The hope I held, the dreams we shared,
Leaving me broken, hurt and scared.

He left me alone with my pain,
Tossing me into an endless rain.
Fights and stress, a constant war,
With no refuge, no peace, no door.

The days dragged on, so dark, so cold,
I carried my child but felt so old.
No friend to call, no family near,
Just me and little Dot, alone with fear.

I worked until the very end,
A desperate plea to not pretend.
To not be lost, to not feel small,
But I knew, deep down, I’d lost it all.

His family, too, turned heart of stone,
And I was left to face it alone.
This man, the father of my child,
Had never wanted us, just wild.

Through the pain, I found the strength,
The love for Dot, I went the length.
My heart, a fierce, unbroken song,
Carrying us both, keeping us strong.

This was the loneliest, most painful time,
A silent scream, an empty climb.
And though he left, I’d still survive,
For little Dot, my loves alive.

He was a disappointment, that is the truth,
But in that hurt, I found my proof,
I can stand, I can fight, I can be the light,
For my little one, through endless night
