Poem

The rats ate the walls, ate the clothes
You could hear them baring teeth and boring holes
And there was a sign outside the window
But not a sign from God, it read
“Win tickets for your family”
When had I last seen?

I woke up one morning with rats outside my cell
The guard out there yelled out for me to go to hell
I would’ve stuck my arm out and punch his face out
But a rat had bit me and a couldn’t call for help

They told me to tell the truth
I told them they’ve got rotten tooth
The whole place stinks of hypocrisy
My whole life far away can’t help me
Guess solidarity supposed to make me feel new
But the rats here make me want to start a coup

Tears feel frozen like an ice fire
Causing trouble keeps me out of the real game
Think causing fire, 
Illegal own of crocodiles, 
General role in gun violence
And satanists and scary guys.
So, the last time I had a cry was when I first got here.

Where did my sight go
I left it with my honeygold
Where did my life go
My words shut down that road.

A fire a fire my cell is on fire
The rats are screaming Jesus
And the flames are getting higher
I am looking down with hope 
Praying to the sign outside
Hoping for a different life
Maybe to get back to mine

I woke up that morning with piss between my legs, tears on my pillow
And a rat outside a glass window not bars of steel.
