ELEPHANT WOMAN 

She is Elephant Woman 
you cannot hide from her
in houses of brick or glass or 
lined velvet curtains
whether it sits on Signal Hill
or in Newlands bourgeois class 
cannot run to mantra mats, rosaries
cheese savouries or even 
Sulawesi forest caves

She is descended !

Close her off with broken fridges and freezers
rusty kitchen cupboards, topped with 
stolen plants
to no avail ~ governed by demi-god 
Ganesh in seventh heaven
her tusks fit stable, Heavenly strength you 
fail to recognise or remember through 
hostile skulls

She is bellowing !

viral arms too heavy to lift black 
tourmalines from eyelids wrinkled
 phone call appeals receive no open gates
even too late for over counter pills 
to soothe life-death chills

Elephant woman’s  wizened 
eyes twinkle, trunk swivel sway !

 hair thinning, course curly bangs 
silver bangles, she watches with pergola 
golden helmet glowing, mantle frills sighing
yogic poses adorned with bright pink roses
know you will if she is for real or a 
stuffed toy rolling down an airplane aisle
in turbulent storm weather or if
she is cross stitches on a blue linen cloth
whilst you enjoy mushroom pie
Strange is Elephant Woman 

Surely you can see her trunken smile 
telling you of Alps crossed, meditation 
climaxes on Himalayenne tops ?

She is trumpeting !

Her mud baths circle with joyful Love to live 
one side of a story your only vision escaping
to ladder climbing dollies with rice pudding lollies

In Elephant Realm she sucks fear with trunk 
showering bells hip-hoping, roly-poly belly, flap-flipper ears enfolding Hearts torn 
with judgement spears 
jiving, asking Ketu for relief
such heavenly bodies listen to 
Elephant Woman for it is she 
exhibiting  exposing bleeding flesh
complexed mental 
mirrors broken in untamed street 
wars of famine, foe, folly

Elephant Woman raises forelegs high 
to expose her womb ~ this is
Life ! Her baby’s head peeps


Flee flee from trunken nose
a noose her other side
bunking impossible with Arjuna jig-sawing 
her thighs, too strong with courage 
 raucous laughter
her white chariots assembled for the kill
to win Hearts over minds
 thrills to still
Strange this Elephant Woman who travels
across dimensions

on knees like in her circuses she tries to elicit
mouths wide with awe
then collapses on
her cushion in bore of human
fiddly grids so sore

drunken breasts will stick to sheets
both dead and alive
soles in leather shoes
treading tarred roads with silken ties
ego’s inevitably die like toads
surrender to the fold 
Earth retching wrenching 
as She turns her Wheels of Fortune

Come, Elephant Woman come
transmute emo rage to Devic sage 

Souls spring high to heavenly Sky
Elephant-Woman’s tusks 
and hooves launching pads to soothe
her trunk in savvy swing rocket to 
Krsna Light to bring forgiveness 
unraveling helixes releasing stiff joint pain
she eases 

Her totem pole
badgers, wolves, bears and crows
delightful friends in human fight
yet rhythmic silence is her chief domain
a constant sameness of wake and sleep 
for cyclical movement is what shapes spirals
whether stage jumps or cymbals clash with 
guitar strings or drum beats
 lipstick crimson peeps

Elephant Woman knows Death lives in Life
and Gold in Black
a stuffed toy or dimpled flesh 
It’s all to dance some
