Poem
Written: April 5th, 2025, for contest Sponsored by: Robert James Liguori *************** Crimson blood-colored sunlight seeps upon the pyramids — Shadows cast whispers softly Kings recline on their golden thrones Kismet intertwines with destinies — Demons dance in the shine of sacred flames Desires have become weary Astral veils drift through the desert. Ancient pyramids, quiet guardians — They conceal secrets and stories Priests with keen vision during nighttime Conduct ceremonies in an enchanting glow Deities are honored with offerings — To soothe spirits and resolve ceaseless challenges Drums resound loudly, signaling despair Souls are called to rest — The afterlife—legend and fantasy An odyssey, a perpetual flow. Pharaons crypts brim with riches — Timeworn monuments to human mortality Fate murmurs from far-off stars Empires decay, leaving behind scars Can turn day into eternal darkness Truth shines as a torch in the haze A pursuit of wisdom in an archaic labyrinth With aged scrolls and ink, the sage maze Unveiling ancient mysteries — With ruthless elegance, destiny swings Empires vanished without a trace Centuries-old dust, an eerie veil History audibly converses with the divine. Vampires lurk in shadowed corners Where perilous demons observe Even the mightiest kings cannot elude The harsh cycle of existence — Wealth is transient and hollow That which is eternal is unlike the spirit Legends and rites of ancient cultures Seek a connection to an expansive idea Mystic Crystal Obsidian Oracle Holds truths in darkness — The perpetual pursuit of understanding Our collective urge to rise above. A solemn dignity approaches closure As souls depart this world — The Book of Souls stands firm — Each life, both ancient and contemporary As light dims and the journey concludes Night descends and retreats In the wind, remnants linger Deities full of wisdom descend To evaluate bygone deeds — The Book of Souls, an accurate account Triumphs and sorrows The spectral tome pages creak Whispers of existence. The Book of Souls, a revered manuscript The fate of every soul is documented Royals and commoners alike As they tread their paths, dreams persist A steep cost to pay for a passage To enter enticing places — A vibrant afterlife lies in wait.
