when tears were dripping 
against my cheek
and there was suffering, more 
suffering than recompense
arose in me, assurance and hope
brought by the wonder
that promised me You were true
and, someone You knew
somehow You knew

when darkness sought my soul
leaving me doubting, 
without any real control
while troubles around me
sought to feed me their poison
there was a moment
more still than snow’s falling
reflecting the promise
somehow You knew what I was feeling
somehow You knew my heart’s longing
somehow You knew my soul was calling

when everywhere I looked
there stood an open book
revealing all the darkness, shadows
like mist covered whispers
held my heart
its beating melting, soft
echoing the prayers
distant feelings, pleading
while the ache withstood my pleas
dissecting the grief within
with the hesitant hand of doubt
the song, spoken by a voice
who knew, I have not choice
it is only through the love
that comes from God above
and somehow You knew
You always knew the truth
my heart, it longs for You

when life let me down
and no one was around
and the feelings felt like pain
there were no words to say
no answers in the light of day
no reasons and it wouldn’t go away
somehow You always knew
the blessings of my soul
they flow from the beauty
in the scriptures, the prayers
the living truth, the reason I believe
somehow You knew
without a sound, what was lost
I was found and somehow You always knew
the love that is here, is love without fear
it is love that’s sincere
and forever, I believe in You
the light of my world
my reason for hope
somehow You knew
this world is not my home
but, still – I’m never alone
I always have You, my living proof
that somehow YOU KNEW!
