This year I turned 41
That's 16 more than I thought I'd get
I mean teachers, police, parents
Hell, even the statistics said 25 was it
So for me, my day-to-day is weird
Every morning a hard-earned prize
Since I never thought I would see it
Nothing matters for me, a constant surprise
I feel like I already hit the lotto
The biggest prize one could win
The gift of old age in a young body
A young man aged by a fear of the end
I step in a house that don’t feel like mine
Walls too perfect, floors too clean
Got a fridge full of food and a car in the drive
But some days it still feel like a dream
I wake up expecting the past to call
Like I’m borrowing time that ain’t really mine
Like the world forgot to cash me out
And I’m living off luck that could end anytime
Ain’t no roadmap for a life past due
No blueprint drawn for borrowed years
They said I’d be dead or locked away
But I’m still here, past all my fears
I see men my age plan for the future
Talking savings, stocks, and what’s ahead
Retirement? Hell, I spent my youth
Thinking the next police stop meant I was dead
But here I stand, against the odds
Rich in ways they’ll never see
Not from wealth, but from the time
They swore would never belong to me
This year I turned 41
A man still standing until the race was done
