Poem
You told me I was nothing, weak and small, That without you, I'd have no life at all. You twisted my mind, made me believe, That love was control, that I couldn’t leave. You silenced my doubts, drowned out my cries, Fed me your poison, wrapped it in lies. When friends said, something’s not right, I turned away, too lost in your night. You held the money, the power, the key, Deciding what I could and couldn’t be. I begged for the basics, you watched me plead, Enjoyed the way you made me need. You called it love—what a disguise, But love doesn’t come with chains and ties. Love doesn’t lock the doors at night, Or take away a woman’s light. You told me what to wear, how to be, Stripped away every piece of me. But love does not make a mother hide, Clutching her baby while terror collides. You never hit me—oh, but you hit her, Your own flesh and blood—how could you dare? And that was the moment, the final crack, When I swore we’d never come back. But I wasn’t the only one you betrayed, Even your mother was left afraid. You called for her help, then tore her apart, No wonder she left, saw through your dark. But I did not break, I did not fall, I rose above, I took it all. I walked through the fire, burned by the past, And finally found my strength at last. I fought for my daughters, carried the pain, But I broke the cycle, shattered the chain. And look at me now, no longer afraid, Standing so tall in the life that I’ve made. No longer shackled, no longer bound, No longer flinching at every sound. The storm has passed, the skies are clear, Your voice is gone—I no longer hear. You do not exist, you hold no space, You are a ghost without a face. No name, no power, no breath, no claim, Erased from my life, forgotten in shame. I do not whisper—I roar, I rise, Unshaken, unbroken, with fire in my eyes. You took my past, but not my soul, I walk in light, I stand here whole. I am the storm, the calm, the fight, The dawn that breaks the longest night. You tried to bury me, thought I would fold, But I am reborn—untamed, bold. I am the thunder, the fire, the rain, The force that rose from all the pain. You are nothing, a whisper, a trace, While I move forward—full of grace.
