Poem
I can’t tell you not to leave, but please, stay here. Don’t touch another body, don’t disappear. Do they make you nervous, just like me? I won’t be mad if you touched them, see. But tell me, why did you leave so suddenly? Doesn’t it feel strange to you too? Yesterday, we held close, today no words, just blue. Pretending we’re strangers passing through, After all the time we once knew. What are you doing today, I wish I could ask. Who are you with, behind which mask? Are you happy? Do you think of me? I wonder, but asking feels too heavy. I hold no grudge, I swear it’s true, Just come back, if only you knew. I can’t say “return” but I beg you, please, Don’t leave me drowning in my tears. Don’t mind my laughter with others around, Even as my eyes squint and joy surrounds, I searched for you in every sound, Hoping you were searching too, profound. I can’t forget our very first embrace, You leaned in close, unsure of space. I didn’t get it, till I saw your face, Then held you tight, a warm embrace. So hold me once more, don’t let go this time, Like we’re frozen midair in a moment divine. You once hurt when I was in pain, I trusted you more than words explain. Now you’re the reason for this ache, Yet you don’t even know, for your own sake. Lying beside me, the world would cease, I wish it had stopped, let us live in peace. Let me run my fingers through your hair, Now I make a wish on every star’s glare “One more time, just be right there.” but, dear star, tell me true, Does he wish for me too? Are you too whispering pleas you can’t say? Hiding from the rain in a bar far away? Do I cross your mind when you’re all alone? Or is loneliness just another drink to be thrown? So many girls who adore you so, Maybe even more than I let show. You never knew how deep I fell, I kept my silence, unlike the girls who yell. And yet, I still can’t say it, I still won’t tell But please, come back, I loved you too well.
