Poem

What good comes of death? 
                    The loss, that empty void
The tears and sound of silence
            The helpless guilt, the what ifs  

And yes, I know, the memories
                    So bittersweet and loved
So poignant and cherished
                         Still, that empty void

My precious love, my Monte
                        A golden boy, my pup
Gave many gifts to me
           His very presence filled my life

One last gift he was to share
                       Upon his passing swift
It seems coincidence or not?
      Another pup had passed just then

A high school best whose friendship
                             I’d  lost years ago
A falling out, a rift never mended
                                    Another void

So when I learned of his sad news
                To reach out , I was moved
And from our mutual grief
                 Our friendship was healed

What good comes of death?
                             Perhaps not much
Yet it seems my Monte gave to me
                                     One last gift
