Poem
If you want someone to change your world, Don’t give up on the sick girl. You may see her walking down the street, But you won’t know of her struggles because she is so discrete. You would never guess she had to re-learn to walk – twice, Because her presentation doesn’t give off signs. When you come to know her and the strength residing in her soul, You will learn she is the one in control. You see, she deals with an unseen illness, Her inner strength and drive ensure her wellness. She has been through hell and back, But she is prepared if there is another attack. She lives life as if there is no tomorrow, She doesn’t look back with self-pity or sorrow. Life is her stage, and she proudly sings her song, I admire how she pushes forward and how she stays vigilant and strong. She sees many doctors to keep the sickness at bay, Through a coordinated regimen of treatments, her personal ballet. She freely shares love and kindness, She cares deeply, is a devoted friend, and exudes graciousness. Many of her so-called friends have long gone, Because of her illness they couldn’t carry on. But of those true friends that stay by her side, They have been blessed for continuing the ride. Many dismiss those who become ill, They write them off because of the needs the sick girl can’t fulfill. They focus on the negative and not what she has to offer, Instead, they only think of themselves and often ignore her. Truth be told, this is not the truth, Many blessings await those where friendships ensue. She offers so much more than a burden, Of this truth I am certain. She is always the beacon of kindness in any situation, This applies to any friend, acquaintance, or relation. The pros outweigh the cons, Of being her friend and cultivating bonds. Focusing on the negatives, you will miss the truth, And miss out on the positives waiting for you. One thing is certain, she has changed my world, For I focused on the woman, not the sick girl.
