Poem
This is a proclamation of my mind’s commotion. No matter the relation, When I say no, you need to listen, I thought you would understand, But you persisted, And now I must live with this for my entire existence. Do you understand the definition of permission? Or you just did it to fulfil your sensations? Yeah, we had a sensual relationship and probably a friendship, But when I said no you didn’t have to turn it to a yes, Because now my life is just a mess, And I must try to start afresh but this scar is just so permanent. OH, how I thought you were kind, Filled with benevolence, But when I said stop you did it ceaselessly, I was laying there hopeless, thinking you would stop, But instead, you continued shamelessly. Yes, we had an intimate relationship, But when I said no you had to accept it, So, tell me, you never had a deliberation of repercussions, That may come out of your actions. Because not only did you break me, You made me hate myself. When I said no, and you persisted, And now I’m just questioning my entire existence. This is an act that has nothing to do with intelligence, But how one uses one’s mind and controls themselves, No matter the relation, When I say no you have to listen, What happened to may I? can I? should I? You know there are some things that you cannot mend. Even if for a moment you thought you had the same intent, I command that you ask for consent, Without consent, I assure you with no fear of contradiction, That your actions may lead to contravention, The main problem is that we live in a nation of inequality, Where being a woman is associated with vulnerability. We strive for a world of equality, where gender doesn’t determine one’s ability. We aim towards a society of equality, where women’s strength is celebrated with care. And their rights are respected with justice. Enough is enough! No means NO!
