Tis a new year, yet my old wishes prevail
I wish for peace on earth and peace for me
the heaviness in my heart still makes me wail
My situation is the same, as far as I see

Can the new year provide what my heart desires?
for my son to get the help he needs so desperately?
for my family to overcome our crossed wires?
Will God work a miracle in my family!

I do believe in miracles and hope keeps me moving
I breathe in and breathe out and take steps each day
the fact that I do this is proving
that prayers are being answered for a way

To live with uncertainty and ugliness in the form
of me living life while stuck on a treadmill of pain
that is life where addiction is the norm
and I pray that hope will never wane
