Poem
Resting against his shoulder, Where I feel blessed by my soul’s respite, With a wonderful that can’t be spoken My heart assumes you will just know What it is to feel like this – Yet, if you haven’t experienced the music Played by love’s quiet voice, Know that it is a love beyond bruising A love that only God could have launched With the melody of grace that He offers When the twilight fades into the night Soothing away the fireflies who whisper on the lawn, Resting against his shoulder My mind wanders, fading into the night Who hesitates to destroy – the beauty I’ve found By his side, the beauty that aspires to smile The beauty of knowing – he is mine, He is the one God sent me to find – the one God designed So that I might know a shadow of what abides In the music of love’s joy, love’s soothing, love’s choosing A love that God sent to pour through me The wonder of a melody beyond beautiful, A song of light, fading into the night – reflected By the stars, singing hope for the morning’s sun, Resting against his shoulder While the dandelion seeds blow quietly Soft as the Southern sun, and just as admirable Despite they’re a weed – they’re still a blessing I believe and I can see, even the dandelion agrees He is the answer sent to me, a heart who believes God knows what I need and God always sees Even the moon agrees While my heart sometimes weeps, There is the still, small voice that brings peace, And assures me that He’s blessed me with a love Far more alive than the endless yearning, And I’m colored in grace, in faith, in hope Because I live for these moments…. Resting against his shoulder, Resting against his smile, Resting, because I know he is the one God sent to make me smile, for now And always… while I can, I need to show The world what love has done – With a love brighter than the morning sun.
