Poem

I feel I have been wandering, it seems a thousand years.
So lonely and alone upon the road.
My only company has been a myriad of fears
Set upon my back, a heavy load.
I know my destination but can’t seem to find my way.
The path I tread appears to have no end.
In my ears a quiet call that I can’t disobey.
In my heart a wound I cannot mend.

I’m a long, long, long way from home.

Pondering the used-to-be’s, I think I can recall
A time before confusion took control.
A time of soaring through the sky, a time before the fall.
The memories just tear me to my soul.
Sometimes it seems a travesty, sometimes it seems a test,
Sometimes it seems no purpose there at all.
Sometimes I feel a hero on a long, forgotten quest.
Sometimes I feel a fool, lowly and small.

I’m a long, long, long way from home.

I’ve been so long in wandering that I can’t understand
If the path I take is right or wrong.
Am I slowly heading toward a distant promised land
Or moving further from where I belong?
I guess, in good faith, I will just keep moving straight ahead,
Following the path I never chose.
I fear I’ll find the end of this just after I am dead,
By then it will not matter, I suppose.
