Poem
Where does the country go from here? There’s still remnants of anger, dejection and sadness Continuing to ponder this mental madness Our identity of blackness is about to come to the brink As we ponder the negative results, just take a moment and think The cultural struggle is very real Yes, the repercussions are a big deal Constant mistreatment, misuse and abuse Our shield of armor, we’ll introduce As reasonable people prepare for the chaos It feels like the weight of an albatross The country is about to walk a path never seen Lets not waste our energy being mean This nightmare will encompass the good Next steps should be clear and not misunderstood Working together collectively and collaboratively is our strength Cohesiveness is the key, to stay on the same wavelength A defeatist attitude in these times are counter productive Negative thinking and negative actions will be destructive Life is about making the change you want to see The results you expect is no guarantee Perseverance is about keeping it moving Constantly evaluating your situation, ensuring that it’s improving Closed mouths never get fed Take positive action and don’t settle for the dread These trying times ahead, will require a show of empathy You choose what will be your destiny Let us not dwell on the heartbreak of the past Get involved with achieving the next task Seemingly, others will try and strip away our rights Keep our eye on the prize, that’s in our sights Don’t become annoyed and unconcerned with complacency Always comport yourself with grace, tenaciously The construct of thought here is not about the black or white race The struggle is about making the case, that all humans can embrace Stand up, Rise up, Show up, come together and fortify in unity When we are on one accord, that only strengthens our community There is no race that’s superior Don’t ever think or feel inferior Our plight has always been about survival Being present, getting our voices heard is vital Nothing is ever easy for an invincible people We only demand to be treated as equal Don’t misrepresent our character participation as a handout Hardwork is not disavowed, but pronounced, no doubt Tough challenges are the ultimate test When faced with the unsurmountable, we do our best Take one day at a time, to avoid the stress God will do the heavy lifting, as we make progress Unexpected results, shook us to our core Seeking a remedy of resolution, we can’t ignore We are currently in a period of transition Together we stay the course to complete the mission Coming down the pike is a thunderous impact Nothing about the implications are abstract The rocky ride ahead is full of turbulence We must guard our sanity, while enhancing our intelligence The fight continues, learn, reflect and act The cards we’re dealt, are always stacked Don’t misunderstand concerns, for complaints No matter how hard we try, there’s always restraints What’s done today is a predictor of the future Don’t quit the charge, it’s not time for the rapture Whatever approach we embark on, must have structure Move strategically with purpose, not to tarnish the legacy and culture Where does the country go from here? Author: Floyd Neal Date: December 8, 2024 Inspiration: The unexpected and unknowing
