Pick one or two, then that night
we may dream of fragile petals around our
dozing heads,

we may feel butterfly kisses,
they tickle, but it’s all perfectly innocent,
their subtle perfumes
will ease us into peaceful dreams.

Not so those cultivated blooms,
roses and such,
they will linger, pout and sulk
demanding more and more
aspirin,
then go slimy on us.

Most consider
weeds to be too common
to be plucked for romance,
however - disclaimer -
they understand the language of love,
perhaps better than we.

(Caution -
if we go crazy with a weedwhacker
they will pollinate our minds
and our brains may go to seed.)

Buttercup and daisy
and all other flowering weeds
are for more natural lovers,

if not so,
we may have to make do
with only silk roses
and electric candlelight.
