Poem

when I was in my thirties, after two or three lean years
my husband got a job which would help our cash flow fears
we paid off all our bills and we even bought a car
we'd go exploring every weekend, and drive to places near and far.

we loved going to the seaside, just to walk along the shore
I thought those times were so idyllic, you couldn't ask for more
life's troubles would just melt away, on those long hot summer days
I wish I could re-live those times, and those weekend getaways.

I booked some driving lessons and I tried to learn to drive
the stress, it just got too much, I didn't think I'd survive
my nerves were shot to pieces and my confidence took a hike
I think I'll stick to two wheels, so I bought myself a bike.

one place where I was employed, I'd been there several years
gave us news one fateful day, that reduced me down to tears
we're making all of you redundant, your jobs will have to go
I couldn't look towards the future, I just didn't want to know.

my husband said "don't worry babe, you'll find a job one day"
we'll manage fine until the time, a new chance comes your way
well, lady luck smiled down on us, and stopped me feeling sad
and the job I finally found, was the best job I'd ever had.
