Poem
They called her Cookie at Animal Welfare, she had a white body with one black ear and a black spot on her upper butt. She had a friendly face and was pretty girl. Could not divide up the cute beagles they looked very close, having two dogs only allowed three in town. Beautiful blue puppy they called Blu but did not want a puppy again. Saw a hefty boy with the same shape is my deceased Kublai. He had a gentle soul but thought unfair on him to want him to be my Kublai. So I got Cookie paid fees of $20.95 and my friend Barb drove us home. Cookie just sit in the back seat looking out the window not making a sound. She looks like a Pit, they said she was a Pointer mix. Need a name for her, thinking Lassie? No she's not a collie, Sheba? too many of those. Star was on the list, Star is good. She became a Star then. Got her home and put her in the yard to introduce to Sassy and Genghis. Genghis immediately barked at her while Sassy was confused. Star growled I said no and everyone behaved. Star bonded with me instantly, always jumping on my lap and slobbering my face with big doggies kisses, she shadow me a lot and sniffed every inch of the house and back yard while Sassy sniffed her. She was the same size as Sassy but not as playful as her. Star focused on me I really wanted Sassy to have a playmate but figure it would take some adjustment time. After all it took my boys about two weeks to accept Sassy. Star was thin but ate well, what the other two didn't finish she did. She was surprised to get a chicken jerky treat later on. She had it good, gave her a bath brand new collar with her tags looking sharp. That night as I slept in my recliner Star slept on my lap but first she gave me a face full of her big doggie kisses. The next day her and Sassy were running around a little, felt good wanted them to be close.Sent photos of her to family and friends and got a lot of pretty girls but one sister said she looked like a Pit. Star always wanted to know where I was and she joined with the other two barking at a neighbor walking his dog. thought she was easing in. Put them in the back yard and the mighty Genghis was yapping up a storm, workers on the house next door put a ladder in my yard to fix a part of that house. Genghis was having the time of his life barking while Sassy excited ran around the yard. Star attack Genghis trying to kill him.Something about the little old guy barking set her off. I yelled and forced her mouth open to free Genghis but she attacked him again. Being old and arthritic I was not as agile and strong as I used to be. I freed Genghis from her mouth a second time she tried a third but I lifted him up and put Star in the front yard. Inspecting Genghis , no blood anywhere he was in shock with his eyes frozen in fear. I touched his body he made no sounds. Called Barb she came over. Star had to go back. Animal Welfare was closed for lunch so we waited for twenty minutes. Star was playful and sweet, she kept reaching for me so I hugged her and received her kisses. Once inside told them what happen filled out report. Told them to keep collar and fee I paid. I cried for her. Really wanted her to be part of my family. She was sweet and loving to me. Barb who foster care dogs for a while told me Genghis was dominant and older so Star had to put him down. Star would be good as a single dog for someone spoiling them with her big kisses. She was quarantine. Once home little Genghis still in shock, could walk gingerly and was sore. I put him on the bed and comforted him as best I could. Sassy watched the old boy and sniffed him and gave him a nudge and a kiss. Genghis recovered at a slow pace, walking improved and he drank and potty. I tore up the chicken jerky into little bits so he would eat them. The next day he did eat well and the shock left his eyes, outside he growled at a cat, the old guy like a cat has 9 lives and used up eight that day. Barb advised me no more dogs till Genghis goes to heaven. Wanted to replace old Kublai with a playmate for my Sassy girl. thought Star was it but not to be. Funny how I am sadden for her. At Animal Welfare they called her Cookie again. Maybe God was showing me hefty boy with Kublai body shape and saying he would be good for my home. I did feel bad for him not taking him, went for Cookie but it did not work out. So grateful my little Genghis survived, did not want him to go out that way. I got him for a little while longer and my Sassy girl for a long time still. It was meant to be, that night was starless... While waiting to return Star at Animal Welfare spoke with a gentlemen there to pick up his runaway Pit, he had raised four generations of them. told me to give Genghis a tiny touch of aspirin to help bring him out of shock. Said if a Pit attack another to grab the Pit and hold him with your arms and blow into his nose and he would release the victim, who knew. Did do the aspirin and it seemed to help. No Pits for me so just trust him with the other.
