Poem
Only God can fill the emptiness of the soul. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. Psalms 42:1 KJV. He knows my darkest hours, when I cry, when I kneel To pray to Him… for hope and grace, for joy that stills The dread, the pain, the slow descent of night’s shame. He knows my fears, the way my heart can tremble, When doubts suck me in with their deafening stories, Pouring shadows over my soul’s song, blessings, wonders. He knows my tears will fall when I don’t know how to call For His compassion, His kindness, His glorious guidance, Gentling my heart, filling me with hope and eternal insight. He knows my prayers, when they’re selfish – and more rarely Selfless, like I mean them to be when I remember – Oh, but I’m so weak, And generosity, though I seek, is like a glimmer of love when I speak… He knows my spirit’s worst, when I’m bad and when I’m good, Filled with a stillness beyond what my mind can comprehend, A solace that feels like the distant rain, blessing away all my pain. He knows my love comes alive when I find the chance to share, The endless ways He’s brought me through the fires, over the seas Where the waters, so deep, tried to drown me in their deepest griefs. He knows my mind can’t find the words to show Him how I feel, I’m so grateful but I know I’m never going to be able to repay… All the joy, the serenity, the faith, the unending love that He brings. He knows my heart, my soul, my spirit – all that I believe, all that I feel When He comes to offer me His kindness and strength, the sweetest comfort That comes from knowing, even though I’m weak, He is my strength. He knows my worst and my best – sees me when I’m ashamed and when I’m blessed, when I can’t do anything but kneel to offer thanks to the One Who came to bring me a second chance, salvation, His amazing grace… He knows my need and He never decides to just leave, Although I’m often without excuse, He still reassures me That His love is enough to heal all my hurts, restore my faith… Remember, because He knows my every pain, He can silence the rain With a promise that, whatever worries remain… He still came To still the broken spirit with a love that will always be so beautiful… He knows me – He knows me better than I know myself And, He still loves me – even more than I can describe with words He loves me in a way that fills my soul with hope, and I pray… Whatever comes, wherever I go in this life, I’ll always KNOW the ONE Who sent His Son so I could be filled with a love from above, Love that only God could stir inside someone who has been as empty as I once was!
