Poem
I once was a pretty flower Untainted by the wind People flocked to see me As I bloomed in the spring But now as the spring fades I can feel it washing away My beauty and excellence My security and grace I have the same stem Same name same face But I no longer attract the sun Instead a deep stormy gray Is it something I did or wanted to say Or is it simply my pure youth slipping away Cause now as I walk through the world all I feel is envy Why does she get pure roots While mine are twisted and muddy Why is her hair so silky While mine is a big knot Is beauty an attribute Or something that’s taught? For I once felt pretty As I floated through the world But now I feel big Far to much for a girl Like I’m watching from branch Rather than being in the moment Like my heart is to hurt On the verge of exploding My cheeks are no longer pink Instead a sick green Like my sister and my mother And her mother before me I watch as they look in the mirror And hate what they see But when I look at them All I find is beauty But they don’t believe it when you tell them Neither do I So our petals wither As we scream at the sky Why am I not like her ? Where are my blue eyes? Why does my skin wrinkle While hers delicately shines? I can’t love my flaws That I’m an individual So I paint my face And weep at the vigil Of what once was mine And faded in the night How can I believe That my future is bright When the world I know Is scared of life Of growing old and waving goodbye I know its awfully twisted But I believe their burning lies Let their crooked thoughts Tarnish my teary eyes Cause I want to be pretty So full of grace But how can I be pretty If I hate my own face So I watch as my thorns grow And I get meaner each day Jealousy running through My ink blue veins For I once was a pretty flower Untainted by the wind But now I’m an ugly person And I’m scared of what that brings
