Poem
While my heart beats, rhythms of gentle Silent, yet burning, beneath these Blue Ridges, An ache, a pain, a troubled heart, wandering In the last moments of a thought, just before sunrise, Helene, the storm who raged through my life, Penetrating the skies, erasing the star’s hesitant breath, Vomiting doubt, darkness, despair – a path of fear, Wherever she scared the intimate prayers, While we still know that God sends His grace, We’re left feeling the devastation beyond His embrace, Where we lost our peace, our dream, in the waste Left by the storm who left us with September’s last days… Wondering, what was to become of the music, The births, the naked display – history is made On the nights who abide after the last days, The hesitant stars, still there, yet not quite so amazed, Distant, like a wafting wind, soothing, yet blessed With the distant prayers, praises, proclamations… Each breath divides the burning cries of a storm’s power, Rampant rage, poured out on these old mountains, A tossing, turning, war – battling the blessings, brilliant Madness, in seas of silence, winds – not so quiet, Making up the glistening words, poetry in motion, devotion To the God who created it all, the wind, the stars, The make believe, trembling in the rain, like a knowing, Flowing through the spirit, seeking to erase the fear, Yet so fearful, tearful, testing all the ways a heart can break… Yes, hearts are breaking – while we are strong, Like the sea, the moon, the sun… Arriving on merciful leaves, autumn knows, while we cry, There are nights who arrive with the knowing, Even as the wind spells out it’s blowing, There is knowing…. We’ll survive, because we are children of the One who is courage, The One who shines brighter than the sun or moon, The One who is destined to provide for those who need His reassurance, The One who inspires, stirring joy and truth, leaving the hope That is above every other hope… Hope for a future with the God who knows, Thought storms will come, they will never destroy the light in a soul who knows The love of God, who is still in control. Yes, HE IS IN CONTROL!
