Castle Abilene So many years ago when I was young And life was but a dream An enchanted princess came to call Upon the Castle Abilene From out the forest From out the cloud From out the living dream An enchanted princess came to call Upon the Castle Abilene And I at home among the stone Did watch her watching me Through the sloop My arrows eye O're the mote stood she So sang her song With voice so strong My bridge could not help but fall And like my brother, and so many other We never left those walls And I saw her there The maiden fair With question did I call How can any be so beautiful? From whither did you come? To leave me dumb no word to come But silence offered she Echo to attest address Only wind between her and me I say you there Such maiden fair With question again do I call How can any be so beautiful? From whither did you come? And without her voice Without a song Nor anything to hear Through magic that enchantress Sent her sentence to my ear Unsay she, Beauty boy is but a toy (you play with your eye) Say whither did I come? Beyond the moon, beyond the stars, beyond the rising sun Say I And just as fast, I aghast How can anybody come From beyond the moon, beyond the stars, beyond the rising sun? Then danced her hand Towards the land That kissed gently with the sky Traced her path from the horizon To her slowly closing eye And pulled her dress In soft caress Creating her a vail And through the lace To see her face As if her beauty put in jail But I was so much younger then That never had I known That any such a loveliness Could ever live so long As any dove put in a cage Forced to be alone Is the same as any castle walls Cruelly built from stone But as I say Unto that day I had never left those walls Generation, generation No stranger ever called But the bridge now down Her sweet sound Unknowing crossed the mote And through ignorance of innocence Right into the dragons throat And in those halls the shadow called So many years ago When we were young And life was fun The lady came to fall And in just one day Her breath betrayed The Princess found her grave Locked inside her prison Poor bird at the bottom of her cage So many years ago when I was young And life was but a dream An enchanted princess came to call Upon the Castle Abilene From out the forest From out the cloud From out the living dream An enchanted princess came to call Upon the Castle Abilene
