Poem
Kindergarten was a scary word for me, Though I longed to go, I was kind of worried But, lo and behold, there was nothing to fear Because, when I entered the class… There came a smile, so sincere. She was tall with dark hair that rested high on her head, She wore glasses and required me to listen to her share Stories of worlds which I would long to see… The music, the light, the lingering of an autumn breeze. Kindergarten was the moment when I would agree, I became a little more important – more grown up, more certain That I could do what others did, be a student, a true friend, Hear my heart breath hope, faith and gentleness… She was a stirring of grace and peace, A welcome encouragement, a tender ally, Someone who knew me and understood…. The reasons for my tears, my fears, my prayers, The moments when I’d feel like I couldn’t compare, The motives, the causes, the purpose for it all…. She was my teacher – the one who seemed to know totally, All the answers, all the solutions, all the keys to breaking through The doubts, the fears, the darkest worries… the grief that stills The hearts affections…. She was more than a teacher, though. She was the smile who refreshed my soul. She was the heart who helped me to soar… When I felt like my wings were gone, She told me I was wrong… And helped me to lift them high, So I’d finally touch the sky! This teacher was more than an educator. She was way more, - so much greater! I will forever remember what she brought to my life… The joy and hope, the support through all my strife. Without her, kindergarten would have been way harder Without her, I’d have felt lost and disheartened. Without her, I doubt I’d have know the wonder… Of a year I’d remember as happy and essential To the rest of my life, the rest of my training, To the part of my life that would lead to the present day – A present where I just continue to pray and praise! I’m thankful for my kindergarten teacher. She was way more than blessed – she was a gift from God Himself!
