Poem
“Some people are like shooting stars. They burst through our lives in a spectacular arc, but they don't stay long. They just leave a trail.” - Erica Orloff, Illuminated Stars doubt the night Will the moon be quiet? Will the owl screech loudly? Will the forest soften its shadows? Will the autumn color it all? Will the darkness feel too small? Will the dew continue to fall? Will the wind sing its song? Will the rain wash away the dust? Will the memories bless the heart? Will the soul pray without doubting? Will the heavy night scatter its kisses? Burning away the cobalt blues Will the burden of lonely leave its hue? Will the melancholic turn the soul true? Will the dripping faucet exhaust and defeat? Will the widow’s webs grow fatter? Will the forlorn waters keep traveling? Will the mysteries of the skies last? Will the nostalgic tales keep telling? Will the endless seas whisper their poetry? Will the laughing trees grow elegiac? Will the autumn leaves preach grace? Will the lessons, so wise, be saved? Hidden in the sands, pretty shells Will the stunning sounds of the waves cease? Will the blessings of light caress the dreams? Will the hearts seek and pray louder? Will the moments grow obsessed by their burdens? Will the lights play with the distant mists? Will the mountains say they’re overcast? Will the trembling prayers feel like solace? Will the sprays of salty water bring healing? Will the endless flames of hope grow silent? Will the flowers wilt and fade among the silt? Will the joy break free and prevent the melodies? Will the poem teach the heart to forget? Maple leaves turn to rust and gold Will the forever sing its song to my soul? Will the loneliest word be my warning? Will the wonders bring with them, a stillness? Will the scent of moss and oak feel delicious? Will the trails of prevention lead to acceptance? Will the night call out its meaning to the moon? Will the hesitant find beauty in the truth? Will the peace of passage see the answers? Will the love that lasts light a candle? Will the clearest waters erase the quiet flow? Will the treasures of the soul be left to hope? Will the lights expose the joy in those who hurt? Whisper gentle life into the night, While my heart aches and I pray Gestures of faith – rising to overtake What was once just pain, the lonely yearning From a soul whose moon stopped glowing The heart whose stars fell, sobbing… This is the memory of a deathlike darkness, The night, discouraged By the despairing… Those only God can hearten with His overflowing brilliance, Where shooting stars have no semblance
