Poem
We are not going back What are we going back to? Back to oppression? Back to man’s obsession with power? Telling us what to do. That was the original sin Don’t you recall? When back in the garden, mankind thought we knew it all? And oh, what a mess we’ve made ever since then, Repeating the same mistakes over and over again. You know what’s that called right? If we go back, we’ll turn into a pillar of salt, Best believe every one of us will end up in default. We’ll lose out on the world we all desire in our dreams, A world where peace and freedom reign supreme. We are not going back to the strife and division, Where men think they can make all the decisions. And dictate what’s best for you and me, How is that considered unity? Red, Yellow, Black, Brown and White, We must all stand together in this fight! Don’t you remember? In the year two, zero, two, zero, There was a disease no person had ever seen before. But some so-called leaders thought they know so much more, And countless of our loved ones died, All because of their schemes, denial and lies. We are not going back to judgement and hate due to color of our skin, Have we learned nothing from way back when? If the sins of our past cannot be defeated, We can be rest assured, they’ll most definitely be repeated. Why can’t we all march forward together hand in hand? With a common destination that uplifts all humans. With our eyes on the future and hope in our hearts, Let’s all look ahead and each do our part. We are not going back and not a devil in hell can make us, For such a time as this, a new direction awaits us! Our destination…. that American dream we’ve all read and heard about, We are not going back, instead, we’re coming out! We’re coming out of darkness, out of hate, out of pain and out of poverty. We’re coming out of fear, out of despair, and out of division. We’re coming out of entitlement, out of bondage and out of disappointment. We’re coming out of injustice, out of deception and out of hopelessness. Again, I say, and I say it with a shout! We are not going back, instead we’re coming out!
