Villanelle

Please leave it out, just cut the rain 
Inevitable as storm prediction
Rested eyes see pressure builds pain

Umbrella forgotten again and again
Clear moments lead me to cling to fiction 
Please leave it out, just cut the rain

In denial I'd rather consult a weather vane
Lose faith in self, evaporate my conviction
Yet rested eyes see pressure builds pain

Fall into cliché of wishing not to complain 
Becoming I fear like unwanted subscription

Running to a shelter in the eye of the hurricane....


11pm Friday - Draft 3

Cut the rain
today is not the day I'm destroyed
those are pebbles underfoot
there's tilt but I'm not unsteady

Evidence is clear as I let hazed eyes rest
unfettered by storm
they see me upright, standing 
not dropped to the ground 

Cut the wind and all weather 
leave me with this strength
not to forget or repeat
but always see clearly

When pattering raindrops
hung too long in the sky
finally fall
let them wake me up

Cut the rain
I'm undecided if today is the day I'm destroyed
perhaps there are pebbles underfoot
and I'm not unsteady

Evidence through hazed eyes 
unfettered by storm
sees me upright
not yet dropped to the ground 

Cut the wind and all weather 
leave me standing 
but not unforgetting
of all I need to change

When pattering raindrops start
after they hung too long in the sky
waking me up or drowning me out
remind me I need shelter
