Poem
Searching outside of myself Far and wide Looking into the eyes and souls of others Seeking answers Looking for my missing part Always sensing an absence Awakening one day with tears in my eyes A complete realization I had found my missing piece Or rather My missing piece had found me Silent warm tears streamed down my cheeks An inner heat grew in my belly My heart expanding Opening ...and opening To me To the inner beauty and light within A deep inhale and a soul embrace like no other A new beginning My whole being knew that no one Could take this completeness away from me I phoned my daughter “Baby, I found my missing piece” She received me and listened I know it sounds odd, but I had to tell you She hugged me through the phone Knowing that I did not want to leave The here and now...not yet Fully alive, my inner beacon started beeping I traveled through space and dove deep Into the bluest blues of ocean’s depths The creatures of land and air surrounding me Sunlight glinted off the eye of my companion A majestic white hawk Her gaze spoke of lifetimes past and present She vibrated with ancient wisdom I flew with her caressing her moist white feathers with my cheek As she glided with me to realms unknown Setting me down on dusty red earth Saturated with the soul wounds of Elders Which filled the air with their songs I heard wailing, guttural notes and heartache Dispersing words Whispering colors into the thin air Opening my eyes I grasped tightly onto spiky bristles Gripping as hard as I could with my arms and legs I rode Thunder and sweat Hooves and horns and commotion Dusty circles of light danced around me The Migration was in full force Clinging with all my might, I journeyed Capturing roughhewn nuances of all that moved She reared and plunged forward My chariot, the mighty Wildebeest Immersed in an immense wave of life Crossing the parched dry plains Seeking survival, quenching rain and sustenance A blur... Life at full force With all its primal energy Unlike anything I had ever experienced My heart exploded with joy Knowing I would not ever trade This life of mine This ability to weave threads of compassion and light with others For anything For we are all naked ~ alone ~ and beautiful Here to share our hearts and souls With our earthly and galactic tribes Giving each other an arena To be heard, loved, honored and appreciated In gratitude to be a part of this Pulsating flow of life I bow to you Artwork and Poem by Susan Lawrence
