Poem
I'm watching it brighten towards morning Watching a cloud drift Trying not to feel the weight of something As the clouds move swiftly It looks like the reflection of trees call out Rooted to the ground but longing to follow On some days the cloud lingers to talk On this day the trees are frantic, every one howls Where do they drift to? Perhaps the planes Where there are no hollering trees Just whispering grass Wild flowers that blow kisses What respite that must be They can gift gentle rain kisses back Watch them gratefully received As they bloom and smile skywards Unlike the ever thirsty trees Although they have their root system Their demands are so loud The flowers more dependent, less insistent I'm not the cloud or the rain Just the onlooker I don't want to be the overgiver or the undertaker But when nothing pauses a moment How can I think? Night-time thoughts will require payback, debt forward, credit due, something... The morning has arrived I'll watch street lights flicker off Stop seeing headlights meander round bends The cloud still moves on In such a hurry to find less demanding terrain Maybe it's missed a nights sleep like me I could rest my head Still watch through the picture window My only view the trees from here And I remember I haven't said I'm sorry Or expressed I'm angry and sad Nor that some people let me down But I let people down too Doing my best, but needing to mostly rush by I'm too tired to talk about it It'll catch up with me Wear me out one day Today I'm too tired though Yet I'm feeling so bad for the trees Who have all the time in the world To think about things I'd best close my eyes to this view It's morning, but not too late to rest
