Poem
In the beginning was the word- and the word was… light darkness dawn promise dusk despair. I was a tempest child a feral cat- alone wild and untamed eyes a jigsaw of shattered chaos. Mom sighs a rustle Autumn leaves of disappointment her gaze a mirror reflecting every misstep a stalag. "Just Fix It!" her then my mantra carved in condemnation each scratching syllable a fragmented splinter in my fickle fragile frailty. My adolescence bled into a jungle-of dark shadows where reverberation of lost innocence lingered Syringes gurgled deceit in lullaby Grimm and Perrault tones. Syringes pinged promises of false belonging their icy touch cold metallic my dissociative confidant. Each puncture a pause in the narrative a fleeting escape from shame’s persistent deadwood. I a ruptured ship battling relentless waves gasping. "Just Fix It!" I heard through the smog fog as innocence withered like frost-bitten flaccid petals. My salvation lingered in Smelling antiseptic sterile halls hope flickering like an overused cadaverous candle in a storm of daunting despair. Old habits-clung Like ivy, to crumbling walls, under the weight-time. Relationships mirrored my mother’s winter of discontent a carousel of pleading faces spun in the dark. College loomed a distant shimmer of redemption a mirage on the horizon slipping through my skeletal grasp. I wandered / fell lost / my way as the maze runner of broken dreams and vile vows. Marriage followed a flickering flame in the winds of unspoken rancid regrets. Children’s laughter / just a hollow hymn / emptiness / hmmmm delivering dreams of dirt potential again decapitated. "Just Fix It!?" I swear and I swore but sobriety remained just a ghost in the wishing well elusive stoned cold. Now beneath the city's neon hum I find answers in the needle’s venomous vomit Komodo’s bite slowly coursing through dreams seeking refuge and ruin. Each hit a letter of apology I’ll never have the courage to pen let alone send. The sidewalk listens as / the confessor's confessional where I spew secrets / to indifferent slabs and benches. Deafening darkness descends I take a last breath of Komodo’s feral poisoned kiss my pernicious piteous prayer. "Look! You see Mom?" a slur and a drip of a lone cylindrical slobber "I’ve Just Fixed It." My final words hang like a fading film in the air that no longer seeks me My life is a tragic poetic play of broken rhythms A testament to all that was lost closes with the period of my own e x t i n c t i o n . A Super-Blue Moon surrendered- to the night.
