Poem
There was movement right across the land as the word had passed around, Poetry Soup had set the challenge for us here. Only poems that are positive, uplift our thoughts be found To include it in their anthology this year. Oh, what delight it is to write and then have other’s read Your work that’s so original they’ll find, All kinds of subject’s prose or rhyme, perhaps it could be said Are written thoughts arising from your mind? I love a challenge any time, contests that make me think, Perhaps I’ll pit my brain against the best. And come up with some clever words that I can interlink - I’ll have to be creative for this test. To write my poems any day for me is lots of fun And so, this one I hope it will inspire The readers to then take look, while visually it stuns With words that burn along each line like fire. Engaging themes and stories told, tests out a poet’s skill- Poetic styles will differ every day. Some days a sonnet, some an ode, or maybe a kyrielle When read out loud a message should convey. With pen in hand write down the words, then edit time again Ensure the meter’s right along with rhyme. But if the rhyme is difficult, to force one must refrain It should read very smoothly all the time. There are many poets I admire; their work flies off the page And leaves me wanting to keep reading more. Or recreate their writing style, so readers will engage With much to learn their work I will explore. There’s Paterson, now he can write a dam good Aussie yarn- Wrote one about a dangerous mountain ride. Where riders mostly mountain bred took horses from their barn And chased Regret's young colt while all astride Or Dorothea McKellar wrote about a sunburnt land- Its beauty and its splendour, told with rhyme. Through imagery her words they paint, a picture that is grand Included change in scenery throughout time. Within her words the reader sees the colours, green and gold The jewelled seas and ragged mountains high. This wide brown country - we call home her treasures do unfold, All captured through this skilful poet’s eye. To write, there should be passion to ignite creative minds So they may put their thoughts down on a page. Exploring other poets work, their style and language finds Many poems that are written cross each age. So, one can then appreciate their work on any day- And marvel at the stories told through lines. The challenge then for me is this, to find the right pathway So, readers seek some poems that are mine. Christine 13/8/2024
