Robert Lloyd Sherriff - Australian Poet, Author, Actor, and Model: American Historian. 1910 In another life, beneath the Southern Cross, In lands where eucalypts whisper tales of old, An artist's soul was in turmoil, the path was lost, A century past, where stories unfurl boldly. Through Adelaide's lanes, in 1910’s soft glow, A dreamer etched words, a symphony unseen, Books that whispered secrets only they know, A mind enchained, a spirit caught between. The ink flowed, a dance of shadows and light, Life’s tapestry, in verses, finely spun, A battle waged within, ‘twixt day and night, The writer's curse is never to be outrun. Consumed by creations, both muse and bane, The written word is a solace and a chain. Visions born from tumult, from joy, from pain, A legacy in ink to remain. Yet amidst the brilliance, darkness crept, A tempest of doubt, of vice, thick and dense, Substances sought, in shadows they slept, Escaping a reality intense. No judgment cast, for every soul has its fight, Against demons hidden from the light. Art—our salvation, our eternal plight, You can pierce the night and grant us a flight. On this odyssey of ink and tears, We traverse the boundary of years, From a century past to today appears, A continuous thread woven through fears. Creativity binds us, a common thread, Across time, across space, our spirits led. Though names may fade and tales turn to myth, The essence endures a gift forthwith. Art’s true calling, beyond fame or wealth, Is to nurture, to comprehend one's self, And in sharing our essence, our very breath, We find a connection between life and death. To that spirit who wrote, who dared, who dreamed, Whose echoes in time, through darkness gleamed, We honor your journey, however it seemed, For within your stories, humanity teemed. A narrative of struggle, of beauty, of strife, A poignant reminder of the art of life.
