Poem
It's been ten years since I've been diagnosed with this DISORDER, with that said, it's NOT a DISEASE. As an active kid, I had damaged a minute portion of my TRACHEA which is the wind-pipe, from where that collaborated function that's called the ESOPHAGUS, carries food/liquid down a [kissing cousin NOT twin] pipe called a PHARYNX. Why they are NOT twins: The Pharynx is connected to the mouth and, The Trachea is connected to the nose. An EPIGLOTTIS is a flap between the pipes that prevents food or liquid from going down the wrong [wind] pipe. I have been using a C-PAP machine until earlier this year. My altitude sickness early last year may have caused further damage to the trachea. My E[ars], N[ose], T[hroat] doctor showed me a live x-ray of my trachea where--I vocalized words--one side moved and not the other. Pulmonology--air flow folks, lungs, trachea, etc., scheduled another sleep study in February, whereto, I was switched to a BI-PAP. My medical insurance who pays monthly, the sleep study that suggested the switch, my PCP who started the show, my pulmonologist whom my PCP referred me to, and the company that owns the machine, made assurances that those listed, each had received the ID code to my BI-PAP device and that it is active for monitoring purposes. Non-use affected calls/emails--?, the company took back their BI-PAP device as my medical insurance will no longer be paying, and doctor's baffled. Second sleep study, this time with BI-PAP in use as they switched me from C-PAP in February. ALERT #1: Three hours into the study, the conducting sleep study attendant woke me to the two paramedics and a gurney with an ambulance outside in the blessed Hilo A.M. when empty wine bottles rolled down the town's sidewalks. Three hours after the traumatic episode ... I am home after befitting handshaking by two whino's nearby--in receipt of their extended hands to me--news travels fast. As did the two changelings flit the beaming stakes by a daystar. A cardio guy now joins my Pills-Of-Pain-and-Pleasure, "cardiac arrhythmia." July--still apnea machineless, lung doctor stops all inhalers--no lung disease, hence disorder. The lung doc says no more sleep study is needed, and a new C-PAP has been ordered, forthwith. They submitted their findings, "cause & effects" to all concerned. ALERT #2: The CAUSE, the newly switched BI-PAP device from my ten-year-PLUS, C-PAP device. The EFFECT is cardiac arrhythmia. It was clueless to all those monitoring--"He didn't use it!", "Nobody sleeps one and a half hours, then don't use it?" "Who doesn't sleep five days in a row, he must be partying!" Everybody except the lung doctor whose study of the graph during my said episodes--that I stated, "hints of sleep," whether I'm asleep on the bed or at my 60' flat screen computer linked keyboard asleep on the chair typing my usual "War and Peace," unbeknownst of an inner "WAR" was ongoing while I was at ... "PEACE." I was clued-in about two weeks ago, ... if my dad and millions more had known. Heed good tidings, and be of good cheer, Amen.
