Poem
More than 300,000 spirits awakened, and rose up that day, Above the pristine manicured and landscaped grounds. They ascended high enough to overlook the shameful acts Being perpetrated on the Capital’s historic mounds. July 24,2024: two hundred rag-wrapped cowards Afraid to show their face for shame, Stormed and defaced the monuments and burned Upon the ground our blood-protected Flag. Whipping up hate and artificial fury as they went, While confused Americans stood idly by, They left the Standard of Old Glory lying in the ashes. Unprotected, they left Her there to die. One man raced unafraid through the circling crowd, Reached out his hand and pulled Her from the flames. One man who still believes in this Country’s grace, stood against the mocking cowards who wouldn’t show their face. Those laid to rest at Arlington gasped, and Watched with disbelief and rage-filled cries. Their last great act of sacrifice, devotion and respect Desecrated, spit upon, before their very eyes. Since 1861, when first these honorable graves were laid One hundred sixty-four turbulent years have passed away. But, never have these Patriots seen such blatant disgrace, And disrespect for their precious life’s sacrifice. The Founding Fathers could not have imagined there would ever come a time when their desire and hope for freedom would turn our beloved Country into a viper's nest of jealous fascists, cruel communists, and radical Islamic jihadists. The ideologies these worship would have killed them for these same wrongs and crimes. These entitled, selfish puppets have no memory Of the meaning of Patriotism or National Pride. These were stripped from their education And replaced with unsubstantiated lies. But millions of Living Souls remember and honor The more than 300,000 Arlington souls who died. Men and women, every religion, every community, Every Branch of Service, Freedman’s Field of Graves and more, In spirit still stand against the rancid cowards who dishonor This great Nation for a few dollars and tv time, and nothing more. When will those who already have the power to proclaim law of the land, Come forward to stop these organized radicals, and destructive criminals? Freedom of speech is just that: speech, not criminal acts. Say whatever your putrid soul desires. You have no right to light the match. My Flag stands for more than just the Arlington 300,000 who gave their all, In the final selfless act of battle, answering Destiny's fateful call. It also stands for the millions of Americans who lost their lives Over these last 248 years, and those who fight today, answering that call. They fought for our freedoms and guarded our rights with their lives, So even those of no character could shout, and mock, and compromise The very freedom that gives them grace, to live in the most desired and sought after place. It’s not your right to burn my flag or deface the monuments of great men. Say whatever your putrid soul desires. You still have no right to light the match. Chula Fleming © August 4, 2024
