Tears shed for self are tears of weakness, but tears shed for others are a sign of strength. - Billy Graham As a child, with self in mind, my tears would fall On a stone paved ground… Exposing pain, shame and feelings Blurred by life, distorted and dusty, hazy As the wind who bleeds melodies Against the backdrop of a star strewn night, Greedy tears, flowing with fears, Struggling for sympathy, Wrestling with dreams Nourished by grace, Mercy and kindness… Never voiced, Though the only choice… When I had grown, and life had shown me, How it feels, how it hurts, how He silences the ache, The tears would fall, but He bottled them all, Each tear, each fear, each dream… Blessings poured out from the One who gave me life, The One who would decide – if the tears were wrong or right, If the tears were dark or light, if the tears were sacrificed, For myself, thoughtlessly, Listening for the peace, That comes to hearts who see, It is the tears that appear, When another hurts or fears… Giving a voice worth hearing, A song of light, a hope in the night, The dawn of a new life, growing From the colors of a tearful smile, One who has sacrificed their heart… Giving, not just affection, But sincerity, sacrificially, Comfort that comes alive For the souls who know His light that shines… So we can give solace to the hurting, Give relief to the soul who is grieving, Give ease to the heart who can’t see The love that He sends with sweet peace, The love that restores the heart who bleeds,… The love that abides inside those who believe, The love that is the center of every empathy, The love that is the reason I know what it means… To give from a heart who can see, Wherever life takes me, Whatever may come, In my reflection, in my tears of empathy, I pray you’ll see the SON, the compassion, All He’s done… To cure me of selfishness, Reassuring me that I am HIS child!
