Poem
A storm had rolled in off the Sierra Nevada and hit Milton Creek Townsfolk were dashing all about town for shelter they did seek Freak storms like this were a rarity and puddles were everywhere Some folks had never seen the like and all they could do was stare. Most of the men took shelter and headed for Jan's Manx Saloon Many were secretly wishing the blustery storm wouldn't end soon It wasn't till nearly noon when the bad weather had finally abated By then it was getting noisy, for it seems their thirst had been sated. The clouds soon cleared, and there was a beautiful clear blue sky With the sun's heat bearing down, Main Street started to dry It looked quite eerie with patches of mist rising like fog everywhere Some properties had been badly damaged, and they needed repair. Mayor Tom organized some menfolk to help with property repairs Some work-shy folks just walked on by without any worries or cares Sheriff Koplin stood before them and said, "A bit of help, if you please. One day you might be needing a hand when down on your knees." A bit of guilt set in and there were grumbles that I shouldn't repeat But soon the work was done, and everything was looking quite neat Tom and the sheriff headed for the saloon for an emergency meeting When they arrived, Caren and Anne-Lise were still busy cleaning. Lin, Jan, Tania, Deb, Deputy Terry, and Ranger David were all inside Talking about how up in the hills, the storm had caused a mudslide Tom told everyone, "Duke, Mike, and Judge Horne are running late They're busy at the courthouse trying to decide some lowlife's fate. Tom added, "We'll free up some money for those affected by the storm It will help them get back on their feet so they can return to norm The Bakers had to leave town, so I propose the bakery's Tania's to run She blushed when everyone looked at her and said, "I'll get the job done." Everyone agreed and the vote was passed when Tania said she was game Lin spoke up, "Congratulations, Tania. Have you yet thought of a name?" Tania sighed and then said, "Give me a chance, I've only just been asked Then said, "Kitchin's Kitchen, and yes, I'm up for what I've been tasked!" Everyone started clapping then Jan came in with champagne for a toast Raised her glass saying , "Tania is one hell of a baker, that's no idle boast!" Then Duke, Mike and Judge Horne arrived and joined in the celebrations. And they too offered Tania their heartfelt congratulations. Anne-Lise and Caren came in for a drink and offered their good wishes Caren added, "It's been a long day. We've only just finished the dishes" Tania said, "Well, it's an early night for me because I'll be up at dawn There's whiskey whoopie pies and bread to bake, all ready for the morn." For the others it was still early so they went downstairs to the saloon They stayed till gone midnight and in the sky there was a full moon Sheriff Koplin said, "Well, that's a good sign that tomorrow will be dry And I want to be the first to Kitchin's Kitchen for a whisky whoopie pie."
