Poem
See Did You See him when he walked into the large dimly lit room and sit at a table, Alone, on fringe of the dancing and laughter. Did you See his eyes light up when he noticed someone walking towards him, only to See the excitement fade as they walked past, not seeing him. Did you See the despair in his eyes as so many walked by and not even notice he was there. As he watched the people walk by, did you See him feel smaller and sink into chair, knowing that he was as good as invisible to everyone in the room. Did you See in his eyes, the look of defeat, and the feeling of total emptiness as he sits alone yearning to be notice by someone, anyone. Wanting a connection, a bridge to gap the abyss of solitude from him being ignored by all those many people around him. Did you See how much further he retreated into himself, knowing that even though he was in a room full of people, enjoying each other’s company, drinking and laughing, dancing closely and exchanging energy with one another. Did he See you watching him as he entered the room. Circling the room looking for somewhere to sit, close enough to be near others, but far enough away so not to feel the sting of rejection. Did he See you notice the look of total anguish in his eyes when you noticed him being ignored by the many people who just walked past him with out even noticing his existence, and the pain of always being alone in a room so full of people. Having no one to share his hopes, dreams, and inner most secrets with. Did he See you watching him from afar. As you began to walk the room in circles, casually speaking to the others as you close the distance to where he is sitting. Looking as if a hole in the floor would open beneath him, swallowing him whole, finishing this never-ending saga of isolation and loneliness. Did he See you when you met his gaze as it pierced the room, seeing everything and everyone, but also no one and nothing at the same time. As you slowly moved closer, feeling the intensity in his eyes. The wonder in his gaze of “will there ever be anyone out there for me”. to share his inner most everything with, his desires, his longings. Did he See your warm smile as you stood in front of him, trying to gain his attention threw the flashing lights and loud music that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. Were the walls he built to protect himself from the pain too tall to See who was right in front of him. Only Seeing a shadow casting down into his secluded little world from the many lights above and behind you. Did you See the fear and uncertainty in his eyes when he finally noticed you peaking over the wall he had built. The confusion in his eyes as you said “Hello”, looking around to see just who it was you were talking to, only to realize was him not someone other person, remembering that there was no one else close enough to be a misunderstanding. Could he See the sincerity in your voice when you said Hello and pushed your hand to him. Your name singing in his ears the first time you spoke it to him. The passion for life and love in your eyes shone brightly, like two twin stars in the crisp cold winter night sky, with all the strength and confidence you have. Could you See that the more you with him, the fishers begin to form in the barriers around him he had built to keep the demons of rejection and loneliness at bay. The look of anguish in eyes change to that hope. The hope that this was not a prank being played on him, like in that movie about a bet made between those type of people who have ignored him his whole life. Could you See the fear and confusion in his eyes as you took his hand and lead him away from his lonely dark corner. How anxious he was as you took him into your arms, and how awkward he felt as you both swayed to the slow soft tone that came from the speakers all around you. Could you feel the rumble from his soul as the walls around him that remained crumbled around the both you. The happiness he felt deep inside him as others in the same embrace look at the two of you with admiration, knowing that something special was forming out of nothing. Did you See that at that very moment, the profound impact you made on his life and for at least that very moment the passion for life returned to his eyes. Did you See that on that very night you saved his life with your kind words and actions. That you pulled him away from the edge of nothingness of his plans and abandoning them forever. You could never know the impact of a kind word or gesture could have on some ones Life Author; Some One You May Know
