"The perils of a possible crash landing with a touch of humor to end it" ~~ The Poet ~~ " Burlesque is poetry that treats a serious subject, humorously, or is simply a trivial story." ~~ Poetry Soup Types of Poems ~~ "over the waters blue the night winds sigh, the breakers roar" ~~ Lord Byron ~~ Such a perfect day for flying. The winter morning was most complying. Visibility was more than I could ask. I was really feeling up to the task. Arriving at the light-plane airport, There were more planes up than I thought. Registering my flight at ground control. Around my plane I took the mandatory stroll. Fuel and wheels, I did all the checks, Climbed aboard and put on my specs. Now in my plane more checks to perform. Started the engine, she was nice and warm. Waited for the signal to say I was clear. Runway free for my take off, nothing near. Taxied along the runway, throttle for speed. All going smoothly, for concern, no need. Wheels up once airborne, up, up and away. A was going to enjoy this wonderful day. Scenery so beautiful, breathtaking sights. Each time was better, no matter how many flights Airspace was limited for these small planes A good flight pattern still remains. Enjoying souring through the air. Beautiful weather so fair. In my single engine Cessna no worry. Feeling free as a bird, there is no hurry. Over the waters blue, even as I soar. The night winds sigh, the breakers roar. All of a sudden the engine splutters. I let our a few unrepeatable mutters. Controls, concur engine is gone, it’s true. Gliding is a sensation to me that's new. Keeping calm I must stay in command. And quickly find somewhere to land. Instruments say we are losing altitude. Sighting a safe place, I have gratitude. The race-coarse below is devoid of people. No cars or horses, I must avoid the steeple. Finding a position to land it’s going to be tight. The plane is idling and full flaps slow the flight. Controlling landing gear successfully down. Glad you didn’t see my face is sporting a frown. Bringing her down gently, with quite a bump. She pulled up in time, my throat had a lump. A quick-witted cameraman pulled quite a caper. Snapped me jumping from the plain for a newspaper. Next time I went to fly, my daughter checked the race guide. No races on today Dad, you’ll be fine so long as you can glide!
