“Make America Great Again (MAGA)” Make America Great Again (MAGA) Where shall we begin MAGA has a negative connotation Greatness has never been in this nation A segment of the population focused on gaslighting us Expecting the minority races to continue to trust When you think of this tag line, remember the country's history Equal freedom is still a mystery Where was the greatness during Jim Crow Even today, reasonable people still don’t know America is not a perfect place The annals of history, is not a proud space MAGA lost its greatness, when we were captured Our servitude in time, is caught up in the rapture People have their own ideals and beliefs The American dream, still not bequeathed Visualizing the bombing of a black Alabama church The lasting hurt and pain, just to much Stacked in the bowels of slave ships, with chains Reliving this brutal history, still yet a strain Slave ships sailed on the high seas We were brought to an unknown land, on our knees The Black race has never been shown empathy Nor has our peoples’ plight been given sympathy Many issues and concerns, not yet talked about Make me want to holler and shout Bombarded with jelly beans and poll taxes Constantly, abusing and disrespecting, our peoples blackness Appreciate what our ancestors went through Don't be complacent, drinking a cold brew Activist and self appointed leaders have their own agendas Don't be fooled or mislead, by the sender Some citizens have on rose colored glasses Yet the detriment impacts the masses As we continue to climb up the hill Others, yet remain still, without the will Just think about how we’re treated, living in an era of modern day slavery Patience, calm, controlling our emotions, is a testament of bravery Closed minds, are an invitation to be brainwashed Some people may say, that’s how we feel, should be squashed One may wonder, why speak now I'd rather use my voice, than to bow Some progress has been made, but not nearly enough Tired of being tough, and still having it rough These thoughts are of many voices But a people have limited choices Far to long, we’ve been a foot stool As a race of people reflect, still we’re ruled Brothers and Sisters, open your eyes and your mind Don’t continue to be held a prisoner, for the grind Think about God, family, friends and self Action brings about change, otherwise, stay on the shelf The key for our comfort, is to cast your vote The willingness to express myself, as I wrote I leave you with love and that I care Always patiently eager to share Authored by: Floyd Neal May 23, 2024 Inspiration for poem “Willful Ignorance”
