Poem
What Will Last Forever? I stand on the sandy shore alone, as the sun wakes up the dark skies Yawning a salty breeze against my face flushing pink, and blinking sleepy eyes The seagulls squawk their blaring alarm To be sure all nature is aware Not the scent of coffee beans or bacon But fish and seaweed as I breath in the air My eyelids glow a bright crimson as i close my eyes and smile Although I'll only be alone here for a short, peaceful while I meditate and pray…it seems i’m so small but I feel revival, not defeat One gains protective when facing the horizon where sky and ocean meet Only one in this sea of people, my footprints dissolve as if never here How many impressions stamped in the sand, over centuries, have disappeared? The ocean is so vast, so deep…how many memories does it hold? Pulling us back deeper and deeper in the dark and deadly cold The tides come in, hungrily, to gobble us up in every wave But these are not the peaceful quiet thoughts that this morning i did crave Whatever things are true, or honest, if they are just and pure, If it has any virtue, or innocence, if it's fact not false at the core, If it's something lovely, something clean, and has a good report Than think on these things, as you judge worthy, in your hearts inner court If you strive to leave your mark, like a footprint in the sand,on this earth and in this life I'm afraid you misunderstand All our efforts all our works,if we want to make them count Must be toward something forever and eternal…that's what this life is all about So with truth as my guide i seek to know what will truly ever last through this time and through the next and on until time has past Only 3 things meet the mark, check all boxes, only these will prevail Three things that will stand throughout eternity and these three will never fail The word of God whether written or the word of God made flesh as man The souls that God,our creator made, each of us, before time began And the third you may guess is faith or hope…But these will pass away as well and right. When Christ returns and every eye shall see, what need of hope when faith’s made sight? But as we can read in 1 Corinthians chapter 13, The greatest act of all is charity… Charity means love… yes love will be forever, love will always be… The dawn has broken over the clouds as the waves crash down in the sea It's time to go and so I turn and watch as my footprints dissolve behind me.
